Basic Structural Fire Protection, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, or Marine Fire Protection certification; Level 1 Instructor, and Fire Officer 1.


The course provides you with a solid foundation and knowledge to identify and analyze safety concerns and to communicate recommended solutions to the command authority. The class focuses on industrial emergency scene operations using the Incident Command System (ICS). You will gain confidence in your ability to handle a variety of emergency situations through classroom exercises, including building an incident safety plan. Curriculum will cover knowledge, duties, and responsibilities of a Fire Instructor I in order to perform the following:

  • Fire suppression operations
  • Technical rescue operations
  • Hazardous materials operations
  • Building construction
  • Fire science and behavior relative to predicting hostile fire events
  • The Incident Command System
  • The fire department’s personnel account ability system
  • Incident scene rehabilitation strategies
  • The accident investigation and review process
  • Post-Incident analysis procedures. Additional Incident Safety Officer duties include:
  • Risk evaluation
  • Resource evaluation
  • Hazard identification and communication
  • Action plan review
  • Safety briefings
  • Collapse zoning
  • Safety committee participation

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to take the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Incident Safety Officer test. This course is approved by the TCFP (Texas Commission on Fire Protection).
