HAZMAT Specialist Course
Prerequisites:
Individuals attending this course are required to have attended a certified 40-hour HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN course. This course meets and exceeds the standards set by OSHA 1910.120 (q) (6) (iv), NFPA 472, & EPA requirements.
Objective:
Train the HAZARDOUS MATERIALS Technician to the SPECIALIST level, to respond to release or threat of a release in the capacity as a:
- HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST
- RAIL TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST
- MEDICAL OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
- DECONTAMINATION SPECIALIST
- INCIDENT COMMAND SPECIALIST
Format:
Students will participate in interactive lectures and hands-on exercises involving:
- BASIC CHEMISTRY of HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
- RECOGNITION & IDENTIFICATION
- PLACARDING & LABELING
- AIR MONITORING EQUIPMENT
- NON-BULK & BULK CONTAINERS
- CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
- RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
- DECONTAMINATION
- CONTAINER REPAIR
- SPILL CONTAINMENT
- DIKING & DAMMING
- CHLORINE KITS (A, B, C)
- MOTOR CARRIERS
- RAIL CARS
- MEDICAL MONITORING
- INCIDENT COMMAND
